Making music

January 21st, 2006 + 4:01 AM  ·  Racerpig

I want to thank everyone that has emailed me and given advice on the recordings that we did here in Iraq. Most were done in one take, due to the Helicopters and planes coming and going. We also had time restraints and had to record late into the night/morning.
I am new to recording and mixing. Is there some kind of trick to using compression?
I have heard some tracks from others where you can hear each instrument clearly. When I start putting all of the instruments together I get a jumbled sound. Is there anything I can do to get more separation?

February 5th, 2006 + 5:02 AM  ·  Racerpig

Powerful Rock song, starts out with mellow guitar sound and then punches in with the snare and a screaming guitar right before the vocals kick in.
Vocals/ Rhythm Guitar - Josh Belile
Lead Guitar - Joe Baes
Bass - Mike Galloway
Drum - Steve Taft

This song was also recorded in Iraq on The PXR4 mini digital recorder by Korg.
We will get better recordings of our music once back in the US next month.

The Rush

January 16th, 2006 + 4:01 AM  ·  Racerpig

Instrumental, written by me and my kids two years ago. Recorded with my band here in Iraq on the Korg PXR4 mini digital recorder.  We recorded in less than ideal conditions, but we wanted to record our originals while we were here.
If you would like to know about the band, check us out at http://swtrktnz.tripod.com

Beautiful To Me

January 15th, 2006 + 5:01 PM  ·  Racerpig

Written in Iraq and recorded in an old Iraqi building on a mini digital recorder. I wrote the song and performed it with a band I put together here in Iraq.  The band is called the Sweater Kittenz and consists of 2 Marines, an Army sodier, and one Civilian (former Navy).
This was written for my wife. I hope you enjoy it. We plan to do a better mix when we get back to the US. We recorded it close to a Flight line, with air planes and helicopters going by constantly.
Let me know what you think.
